Abstract

This article explores the problems of translation equivalence in jewelry terminology from a theoretical perspective grounded in translation studies, terminology theory, and cultural linguistics. Jewelry terms represent a culturally marked terminological system in which lexical meaning extends beyond material reference to include symbolic, ritual, and social dimensions. Using representative terms such as ring, bracelet, earring, necklace, pendant, brooch and their Uzbek counterparts uzuk, bilaguzuk, sirg‘a, marjon, tumor, tillaqosh, the study analyzes manifestations of full, partial, and zero equivalence. The findings demonstrate that semantic scope divergence, cultural specificity, and metaphorical extension significantly limit one-to-one correspondence between languages. The article argues that translation equivalence in jewelry terminology should be understood as a functional and interpretative process rather than a stable lexical relationship.
